On the morning of December 11, 2019, a beloved husband, father, and member of the community lost his life to a fatal crash with a FedEx driver.
The dedicated employee was in the midst of a 2-hour drive to deliver materials to a job site when he was struck by a FedEx van traveling the wrong way on I-35 near Clear Lake, IA. While the accident is still under investigation, an initial crash report reflects the 30-year-old FedEx employee was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-35 when he collided with the West Des Moines resident.
Tragically, both men died in the crash.
FedEx extended a statement to KCCI Des Moines:
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those involved in this accident. Safety is our highest priority, and we are cooperating with investigating authorities.”
As for the Des Moines man, loved ones are devastated by his untimely passing.
A friend of the victim empathized with his wife and daughters, describing him as “a very hands-on dad.” He also noted the victim was well-known and respected within the construction industry and had an influence on the architecture of downtown Des Moines, calling the death,
“a loss for the industry, his company, and himself.”
The holiday season will always remind him of the friend he lost too soon.
