News: Man sentenced to 10 years in connection to fatal 2019 crash

DES MOINES, IA - A man from Altoona was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection to a fatal collision in late 2019.

According to the Des Moines Register, the incident occurred on November 30th, 2019 along the ramp from eastbound I-235 to I-80.

Police say the 22-year-old driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was on Snapchat when he lost control of his vehicle. The pickup truck spun to the right before entering a ditch and rolling over.

Two passengers were ejected in the crash. One of them, a 20-year-old woman, became trapped under the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries as a result.

The man behind the wheel pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and serious injury by vehicle and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
