News: Suspect killed, officer injured in South Park crash

DES MOINES, IA - A suspect was killed and a Des Moines Police officer was hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle in south Des Moines on Monday night.

According to a report by WOI, the officer had attempted to pull over a vehicle being driven recklessly in the 3700 block of SE14th Street at about 7:45 p.m. Shortly afterwards, the officer radioed that the driver reacted violently and then attempted to flee on foot.

About a minute later, dispatch received reports that the suspect and the officer had both been struck by a vehicle.

Both individuals were rushed to a local hospital, where the 31-year-old suspect died. The 48-year-old officer remains hospitalized in serious condition as of Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
