VAIL, IA - Two men were hospitalized with serious injuries sustained in a head-on collision near Vail on Wednesday morning.
KCIM reports that the Iowa State Patrol was called to the scene of a crash on US 30 east of 370th Street shortly before 6 a.m. on July 15.
They believe that a 2016 Nissan Rogue headed west on 30 entered the eastbound lanes in order to pass another vehicle, which put it directly in the path of an oncoming Toyota Camry. The Nissan's driver pulled the vehicle to the left in an effort to avoid a collision, but could not, and his vehicle struck the Camry on its front passenger side.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Crawford County Memorial Hospital, and then to an unnamed hospital in Omaha, NE.
The driver of the Nissan was issued a citation for his role in the collision.
