WHEATLAND, IA - An Illinois man ran afoul of the law earlier this week when he lost control of his vehicle while driving near Wheatland, traveled into a cornfield, and crashed through a fence, the Clinton Herald reports.
The 40-year-old man was driving in the 2300 block of 105th Avenue at about 9 p.m. on Monday, July 19, when his 2013 Dodge Ram ran off the gravel path, over a ditch, and then through a cornfield. The pickup eventually crashed into a barbwire fence and finally came to a rest in a nearby creek bed.
While the man was uninjured, a Clinton County Sheriff’s deputy who responded to the crash charged him with failure to maintain control. He is believed to have caused $3,500 in damage to his truck, and $1,800 in damage to the cornfield and fence.
