News: 58-year-old cyclist fatally struck by car in Newton

NEWTON, IA - A Newton man was killed after being struck while riding his bicycle just south of downtown last Thursday.

According to Newton Daily News, the 58-year-old man was hit by a Ford SUV at about 7:35 p.m. while riding in the 3200 block of Highway S-74 South, near South 29th Avenue.

The victim was flown to a hospital in Des Moines, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Investigators say he did not have any safety reflectors or lights on when he was struck.

It is unclear if the driver involved in the crash will face any charges.
