DES MOINES, IA - One of the two men arrested for their role in a crash that killed a 4-year-old boy on the 1700 block of Fleur Dr Dec. 13 has pled not guilty, according to WHO 13.
A 47-year-old driving a BMW SUV was racing against a 35-year-old driving a Genesis north on Fleur Dr at speeds over 100 mph when the 35-year-old crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic and collided with a Honda Accord driven by a 38-year-old woman at around 6 p.m.
The woman had two passengers, a 4-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy.
The 35-year-old then slammed into a Chevy Equinox driven by a 40-year-old woman.
Rescue crews transported everyone involved in the collision to an area hospital, where the 4-year-old died from his injuries.
Authorities arrested the 35-year-old driver and charged him with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, drag racing and excessive speed.
Police eventually located and arrested the 47-year-old driver. He has been charged with homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, drag racing, and reckless driving.
The 35-year-old has pled not guilty to his charges, which include homicide by vehicle and reckless driving.
