News: Man expected to survive dog attack on Hawthorne Dr

WEST DES MOINES, IA - Officials say the man who was attacked by two pit bulls at the Fountains Apartments at 5101 Hawthorne Dr on Dec. 8 is expected to survive the ordeal.

The owner of the pit bulls, a 27-year-old man, was attacked by his pets around 4 p.m. The dogs were still attacking the victim as officers approached the scene.

Officers shot and killed one of the dogs while the other ran off. The dog was eventually located and captured.

Rescue crews transported the victim to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say the man will survive.
