News: One hospitalized after 7-vehicle wreck in Davenport

DAVENPORT, IA -- One person was hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision near North Ridge Shopping Center in northeast Davenport, reports Our Quad Cities.

The events unfolded at the corner of East 53rd Street and Utica Ridge Road shortly before 2:00 p.m.

An early investigation indicates the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck was suffering a medical issue as they drove into the intersection and hit a vehicle.

The truck then proceeded westbound until it veered past the median and into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with two oncoming vehicles. The impact of the crash caused one vehicle to run off the roadway and hit a third vehicle.

Authorities said the pickup continued to travel off the roadway and into a parking lot, where it hit two other vehicles.

Davenport police, fire crews, and EMS personnel all responded to the scene, where two people were treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup was transported to Genesis Medical Center to be evaluated for the causing medical issues.

As of Thursday evening, no charges or citations have been filed, but an investigation remains ongoing.
