DAVENPORT, IA -- A 15-year-old boy was critically injured Monday night in a multi-vehicle collision after a driver ran a red light in north Davenport, reports Our Quad Cities.
The crash happened at the intersection of Welcome Way and East 46th Street, near NorthPark Mall, at approximately 7:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a Nissan Maxima was speeding southbound on Welcome Way when it ran a red light at 46th Street. The Maxima collided with a westbound Nissan Altima and struck an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck, causing all vehicles to stop in the roadway.
Moments after, two occupants in the Maxima fled the scene on foot. The Maxima's third occupant had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was first transported to Genesis Medical Center and later airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in critical condition.
The driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Genesis Medical Center.
Two occupants in the F-150 sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
As of this writing, no further details have been shared regarding the two hit-and-run suspects.
