MADISON COUNTY, IA -- A 17-year-old driver died early Sunday morning after a single-vehicle accident that injured three other teen passengers near Winterset, according to KELO.
The Iowa State Patrol said the fatal collision occurred over a gravel road where the teen lost control of a GMC Sierra before it traveled into a ditch and struck a tree.
Authorities said the teen driver was killed in the crash.
Three other teenage occupants suffered undisclosed injuries. No updates on their condition have been released as of this writing.
An investigation was underway, but authorities said the driver had been speeding at the time of the accident, and intoxication is believed to have been a factor. Investigators also noted none of the occupants were wearing a seat belt.
