News: Driver killed in multi-vehicle crash off I-80 in Williamsburg

IOWA COUNTY, IA -- An 80-year-old Illinois man died Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle accident after running a stop sign near Interstate 80 in Williamsburg, according to 1630 KCJJ.

The fatal collision occurred on M Avenue off the I-80 westbound exit ramp shortly after 10:00 a.m.

An early investigation by the Iowa State Patrol indicates three vehicles were involved. A 52-year-old man was driving a semi-truck southbound on M Avenue at the same time the victim had just exited I-80 westbound in a Toyota. A 48-year-old man behind the wheel of a GMC was stopped at a stop sign and about to turn left onto M Avenue.

Authorities said the victim ran the stop sign, resulting in a collision with the semi. Debris from that crash struck the nearby GMC.

The driver of the Toyota died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed ISP. The other two drivers were not reported injured.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
