News UPDATE: Driver dies days after two-vehicle crash near Des Moines airport

DES MOINES, IA -- A 67-year-old woman died Thursday, two days after a two-vehicle collision that hurt three others near Des Moines International Airport, according to WHO Des Moines.

The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Fleur Drive and Payton Avenue on Tuesday, January 26, shortly before midnight.

A preliminary investigation shows a Chrysler Pacifica was traveling southbound on Fleur Drive at a high rate of speed when it struck the back of a Cadillac Escalade.

The woman, who was behind the wheel of the Cadillac Escalade, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died.

Her two passengers were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital but have since been discharged.

Authorities said the driver and sole occupant of the Chrysler Pacifica, which erupted into flames after the crash, was rescued unconscious from the vehicle and remained hospitalized as of Friday.

An investigation by the Des Moines Police Department's Traffic Unit remains ongoing.
