LINN CO., IA - A driver and his passenger were injured today when he swerved to avoid a pile of gravel in the roadway and crashed into a ditch, the Linn County Sheriff's Office reports.

The incident happened at about noon today on Fairchild Road just north of Horak Road. Bruce Klendworth Sr. was driving his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado north on Fairchild when he swerved suddenly to avoid a pile of recently dumped gravel that was in the roadway. The Silverado ran off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch, injury Klendworth and his passenger, 71-year-old Joetta Klendworth.
Emergency responders took the Klendworths to Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids for treatment.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
