CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - One person is dead and another is in custody following a fatal crash that took place on I-380 near US 30 yesterday afternoon, KDAT reports.
Authorities say that the incident occurred at about 4 p.m. Thursday, when the driver of a black SUV heading south on I-380 took the exit for eastbound US 30 then suddenly veered way from the exit, onto the grass median, and back onto the interstate, where he struck a southbound motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries as a result. That person's identity has not been made public.
Cedar Rapids Police said later that night that 39-year-old Carlos Garcia, the driver of the SUV, has been charged with Vehicular Homicide and Operating While Intoxicated. Other charges may be pending.
