CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - A Cedar Rapids man is facing a number of charges in connection to a multi-vehicle crash the claimed the life of an elderly woman on Monday night.
According to KCRG, the suspect was seen driving erratically on 1st Avenue Southwest before slamming into the rear of another vehicle near the intersection with 7th Street Southwest. The impact pushed the second vehicle into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a pickup truck.
A 77-year-old woman in the vehicle that was hit suffered fatal injuries in the crash. A 77-year-old woman and the driver of the pickup were sent to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle that caused the initial crash was arrested on charges of Homicide by Vehicle, Serious Injury By Vehicle, and Driving While Barred or Revoked.
