DES MOINES, IA - A man has been sentenced for his role in a deadly crash that killed a 4-year-old boy on the 1700 block of Fleur Dr on Dec. 13, according to KCCI.
The defendant, a 47-year-old male, was drinking with his friend, a 35-year-old male, before they decided to race each other.
They raced down northbound Fleur Dr at more than 100 mph when the 35-year-old's Genesis sedan crossed the southbound lanes and slammed into two other cars.
A four-year-old boy died in the crash.
The defendant was found guilty of operating while under the influence, two charges of reckless driving, vehicular homicide by drag racing, and leaving the scene of a deadly crash.
The 47-year-old was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He must also pay the 4-year-old's family $150,000.
