News: 3 people injured when driver crashes while eluding police in Davenport

DAVENPORT, IA - According to KWQC, three people were hurt when a driver pursued by the police crashed into trees Saturday.

Joseph A. Sutton, 41, was driving a dark-colored Chevy SUV west on I-74 near Middle Rd when a trooper attempted to pull him over for not having registration plates or a temporary tag in the rear window at 12:12 a.m.

Sutton eluded the police until he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into multiple trees at over 60 mph.

Sutton attempted to escape the vehicle through the rear passenger's window before he was arrested.

Rescue crews transported the three other occupants of the SUV to an area hospital. Sutton was also taken to an area hospital with an injury to his back. He was arrested after he was cleared from the ER.

Authorities charged Sutton with eluding, second-degree criminal mischief, serious injury by a vehicle, and first offense of driving under the influence.
