News: Man found guilty of fatal crash asks for new trial

DES MOINES, IA - The 35-year-old male convicted for a fatal accident that killed a four-year-old boy on the 1700 block of Fleur Dr on Dec. 23, 2022, has asked for a new trial, according to We Are Iowa.

The defendant was drinking with a 47-year-old male at the Wicked Rabbit on Army Post Rd when the two decided to race each other.

The 35-year-old male lost control of his car and collided with two other vehicles, killing a four-year-old boy and injuring others.

A jury found the 35-year-old guilty of Homicide by Vehicle - Operating While Intoxicated, Homicide by Vehicle - Reckless Driving, Homicide by Vehicle - Drag Racing, Serious Injury by Operating Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, and Serious Injury by Reckless Driving.

The 47-year-old male will have his trial in September.
