DES MOINES, IA - Authorities arrested a woman on Thursday for her role in a crash on May 4 at SE 14th St and E Bell Ave that seriously injured one person, according to WHO 13.
A 20-year-old woman was driving south on SE 14th St when she did not yield and turned left onto eastbound Bell Ave. The driver of a northbound Chevy Avalanche hit the 20-year-old woman's car as she made the turn.
Rescue crews transported the 20-year-old driver and one of her passengers to an area hospital with minor injuries. Her other passenger was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
The 20-year-old woman told officers at the scene she may have had a contact high from her passengers smoking marijuana in the car before the crash.
Authorities arrested the 20-year-old woman Thursday and charged her with serious injury by vehicle - OWI. They cited her with failure to yield upon left turn and failure to provide proof of financial liability - accident.
