News: Jury convicts man for deadly crash on Fleur Dr

DES MOINES, IA - According to WHO 13, a jury found a 35-year-old man guilty of a fatal crash on the 1700 block of Fleur Dr on Dec. 13, 2022.

The defendant was drinking with a 47-year-old male at the Wicked Rabbit on Army Post Rd when they decided to race each other.

The defendant was driving a Genesis at speeds over 100 mph when he lost control of his vehicle near Grays Lake Park, strayed into oncoming traffic, and crashed into a car driven by a 40-year-old woman around 6 p.m.

The woman's nephew, a four-year-old boy, died in the crash and the woman suffered serious leg injuries.

The defendant was convicted of operating while intoxicated, vehicular homicide by street racing, and reckless driving. He will be sentenced on July 14.

The other person allegedly involved in the street race, a 47-year-old male, will go on trial on June 26.
