News: Officer injured after being flung from car during chase in Carroll

CARROLL, IA - An officer was hurt when he was flung from the car he was clinging to during a police case in Carroll on March 5, 2021, according to KCCI.

Officer Patrick McCarty had pulled over a sedan and informed the passenger, Dennis Guider Jr., he had warrants for his arrest in Illinois. Guder slid over to the driver's seat and took off after the driver had exited the vehicle.

Officer McCarty jumped onto the hood of the car as Guider drove off and led officers on a chase for about one minute before crashing into a ditch and flinging McCarty from the vehicle.

Rescue crews transported McCarty to an area hospital with a broken back.

Guider pleaded guilty to serious injury by vehicle in March 2023 and was sentenced to five years in prison. This will be served separately from his sentence in Illinois.
