DES MOINES, IA - According to WHO 13, the driver who fatally collided with another vehicle at E University Ave and E 27th St on Nov. 12 has been arrested.
An 18-year-old man was driving a Chevy Camero at speeds exceeding 100 mph when he collided with a Buick Century that was turning onto E University from E 27th Ave around 8 p.m.
The Century's two occupants, a 76-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman, were killed in the crash.
The 18-year-old man told authorities that he had eaten marijuana about 45 minutes before the wreck. He also told investigators that he was using a THC vape pen.
Witnesses told investigators that the Camaro had been speeding at around 80-100 mph.
Authorities charged the 18-year-old man with two counts of vehicular homicide-reckless driving and two counts of vehicular homicide-OWI.
