News: Driver who crashed hayride near What Cheer denies negligence

WHAT CHEER, IA - According to KCCI, the man who was driving a hayride when it crashed and injured two kids on Oct 14 denies negligence claims.

A pickup truck was pulling a trailer for a hayride when the driver had an accident around 9 p.m. The 29 Sigourney 7th graders riding on it were thrown into a ditch.

Rescue crews transported two children to an area hospital. One of them had a broken pelvis and vertebrae and organ damage. The other student had broken bones in her leg and ankle.

The hayride was not a school-sanctioned event. A group of parents organized it.

The family of one of the injured children has filed a lawsuit claiming the pickup truck driver was negligent.

The pickup truck driver denies these allegations and has asked for a trial.
