FORT DODGE, IA - The woman who was attacked by three dogs near S 16th St on Nov. 24 has undergone multiple surgeries, according to KCCI.
The incident began when a witness called the police after hearing calls for help around 11:25 a.m.
An officer arrived at the scene and discovered three dogs attacking a woman. The officer attempted to scare the dogs away but failed. The officer then shot the dogs.
Rescue crews treated the woman's injuries at the scene before transporting her to an area hospital. Crews then airlifted the victim to a hospital in Des Moines.
Doctors have amputated both her legs to her knees and parts of her hand. The woman has head trauma and will require facial reconstruction surgery.
Police have not filed any charges.
