News: 2 teens charged for deadly crash near Iowa City High School

IOWA CITY, IA - According to KCRG, authorities have charged two 17-year-old males with two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter and Homicide by Vehicle for a deadly crash at E Court St and S 7th Ave on May 27.

The two teens were driving next to each other on E Court St at around 50 mph in a 25 mph zone when one of them ran a stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by Jennifer Russell, 22, at approximately 10:45 p.m.

The collision caused Russell's vehicle to collide with the other speeding driver. Russell died in the crash.

Russell's family filed a lawsuit against the two teens, saying they were drag racing when the wreck happened. That lawsuit was dismissed.

The Johnson County Attorney's Office will try to waive jurisdiction from juvenile court to Johnson County District Court for both defendants.
