News: Driver fatally collides with semi-truck on I-80 in Polk County

POLK COUNTY, IA - A driver died after colliding with a semi-truck on I-80 EB near mile marker 133 on Sunday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

A 51-year-old man was driving a 2019 Kia Optima east on I-80 when he rear-ended a semi-truck driven by a 40-year-old man around 1:38 a.m.

The collision caused the Optima to flip over on its top and come to rest in the center lane.

Rescue crews pronounced a 40-year-old female passenger from the Optima dead at the scene and transported the driver to an area hospital. The semi-truck driver was not hurt in the incident.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.
