IOWA CITY, IA - A fire broke out at a homeless encampment on the 1400 block of S Gilbert St on Wednesday, according to KCRG.
Firefighters were called to the scene of a vegetation fire around 1:56 p.m. The call was later upgraded to a structure fire because of its location near an encampment and a building.
Crews put out the fire in about 15 minutes. Nobody was hurt in the incident.
Several people living in the encampment lost everything they owned in the fire.
The Iowa City Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.
