News: Jury selection begins for man charged in deadly crash on Fleur Dr

DES MOINES, IA - Jury selection began Monday for the trial of one of the men accused of a street racing crash that killed a 4-year-old boy on the 1700 block of Fleur Dr on Dec. 13, 2022. according to WHO 13.

The defendant, a 47-year-old male, was allegedly racing with a 35-year-old male when the 35-year-old strayed into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. The 4-year-old boy was a passenger in the car that was hit. One other person in the vehicle was injured in the crash.

Following the collision, the defendant allegedly exited his vehicle to look at the wreck before leaving. Authorities arrested him a few days later.

The driver who hit the car was convicted of reckless driving, operating while intoxicated, and vehicular homicide by street racing. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The defendant is charged with homicide by vehicle-reckless driving, homicide by vehicle-drag racing, homicide by vehicle-operating while intoxicated, serious injury by vehicle-operating while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
