KEOKUK COUNTY, IA - An employee with the Keokuk County Sheriff's Office has been placed on administrative leave amid the investigation into a hayride crash that sent two children to the hospital on Saturday, according to KCRG.
A pickup truck was pulling a trailer for a hayride when the driver had an accident around 9 p.m. The 30-40 Sigourney 7th graders riding on it were thrown into a ditch.
Rescue crews transported two children to an area hospital. One of them had a broken pelvis and vertebrae along with organ damage. The other student had broken bones in her leg and ankle.
The hayride was not a school-sanctioned event. A group of parents organized it.
The Keotuk County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol are investigating the incident.
Officials have not provided information on which employee was involved in the incident and what their role was.
