News: Semi-truck driver gets trial date for fatal crash in Urbandale

URBANDALE, IA - A semi-truck driver who allegedly left the scene after fatally colliding with a man on I-80 near 86th St on Nov. 12, 2023, has a trial date, according to KCCI.

A 54-year-old man was driving a semi-truck west on I-80 when he approached the scene of an accident and hit a man standing outside his tow truck around 10 p.m.

The semi-truck driver did not stop after hitting the man. Authorities pulled over the driver in Clive. They smelled alcohol on the driver. They performed a breathalyzer test on the driver. His blood alcohol level was above the legal limit

Authorities booked the semi-truck driver in jail around 3 a.m. the next day. They charged him with homicide by vehicle-OWI, leaving the scene of a deadly accident, and causing death by unsafely approaching a stationary vehicle with hazards activated.

The driver's trial date is set for Feb. 26.
