News: Teens accused of causing fatal Iowa City crash plead not guilty

IOWA CITY, IA - According to KCRG, the two teens accused of drag racing before a fatal crash on Court St and 7th Ave on May 27 pleaded not guilty to their charges.

Two 17-year-olds were driving a 2008 Saturn and a 2012 GMC west on Court St side by side at 25 mph above the posted speed limit when they sped through an intersection at 7th Ave and collided with a 2017 Chevrolet operated by a 22-year-old woman around 10:45 p.m.

Rescue crews transported the 23-year-old to an area hospital, where she died. Three other 17-year-olds were hurt in the collision.

Authorities charged both 17-year-old drivers with Involuntary Manslaughter and Homicide by Vehicle.

The jury trial for the two 17-year-olds will begin in April.
